Prime Minister Wescot-Williams Meets with
Committee to Establish UNESCO Biosphere Reserve on St. Maarten

Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Wiliams recently met with the Man and Biosphere Committee tasked with establishing a Biosphere Reserve for St. Maarten. Committee chairwoman, Secretary General for UNESCO St. Maarten Marcelia Henry and committee members Fleur Hermanides, Claire Hooft-Gradfland and Tadzio Bervoets discussed the establishment a Man and Biosphere Reserve with Wesco-Williams. Rueben Thompson is also part of the committee. The programme develops the basis within the natural and social sciences for the rational and sustainable usu and conservation of the resources of the country and for the improvement of the overall relationship between people and their environment. A proposal to list of the Man of War Shoal Marine Protected Area and Mullet Pond and possibly Fort Amsterdam were discussed. The committee will present the project in the near future to the Council of Ministers.
